Mountain Village Small Home Design

CCHRC is working with the Asa’carsarmiut Tribal Council in the lower Yukon community of Mountain Village to design a small “starter home” as an alternative to the standard 3-bedroom home found in most of rural Alaska. The home will be geared toward young couples, elders, and singles and can expand over time as the family grows, with a focus on affordable, durable, energy efficient construction. The goal is to come in at one-third the cost and size of a typical rural home to open up opportunities for home ownership to more people. It will be built by a local crew with an option for the homeowner to be on the crew as credit toward the cost of the home.
