ABOUT
This website was created by the Cold Climate Housing
Research Center (CCHRC), a private non-profit corporation
in Fairbanks, Alaska that promotes sustainable, durable,
healthy housing in the Circumpolar North. The site is
designed to help homeowners understand the energy
performance of their homes and save money through
making energy improvements.
CCHRC researches energy efficient design and construction,
studies alternative energy systems, develops and tests
sustainable building materials and systems, and designs
and prototypes energy efficient homes in various
communities throughout Alaska.
This website was designed with funding from the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation and the Fairbanks
North Star Borough. It is part of the PORTAL grant, a program established in 2008 to help Alaskans make
their homes more energy efficient in light of rising fuel prices. The program has included free consumer
workshops, assistance with the state home energy rebate program, homeowner consulting, and outreach
and education. Much of the content currently has an Interior/Northern Alaska focus, but will expand over the
next year to cover specific regions throughout Alaska; read about the plan here.
This website includes instructional videos, podcasts, informational articles, research reports, and more.
