Tracy Sehmel grew up in Washington state and studied writing at Western Washington University. After having a deskjob she decided to stay physically active, working for city parks, the international airport, and apprenticing as a coffee roaster. In her free time she climbed in the North Cascades and kayaked by the San Juan Islands with her husband, Bryan. They moved to Fairbanks and Tracy continued to roast for a while, but now works for the borough parks and is also a project intern for CCHRC. She hung up her ice ax and kayak to try out a dog sled and packraft. Tracy and Bryan live in a geodesic dome. They have five Alaska huskies and a cat.
